Fat grafting to face
Wrinkles, deep lines, thin lips, bumps, or depressions in the face and neck area, chest, or other parts of the body can be distressing. In the past, artificially manufactured preparations have been used to correct these imperfections; however, results are limited and short-term. Fat transfer injection is recommended for a more lasting and gives more natural result. It can also be used as an additional treatment in tandem with procedures such as facelift.
Fat cells are harvested from the body through special cannulas with the patient under local anesthetic and with use of sedative medication (sedation). The harvested fat is then specially treated before it is injected with special cannulas (Coleman's technique) in the desired facial area.
Usually, relatively small amounts of fat are harvested, but it is preferable that
a specific area of the body be accessed in the event that a correction is necessary at the same time. For example, liposuction of the abdomen or thighs, harvesting the fat, could be combined with correction of the face and lips, reintroducing the harvested fat.
Initially, the course of action is to overcorrect the treated area to compensate for this loss. In a standard fat injection procedure, a small incision of about 1-2 mm will result in which cannulas are inserted to inject the fat. Physical training and hard physical work should be avoided for 2 weeks after surgery. It is recommended that the incision sites be taped for 2 months after surgery.
To get optimal results and avoid complications you should avoid stress, stay out of the sun, eat healthily, keep your weight within a normal BMI range, exercise regularly, and refrain from alcohol for 2 days prior to surgery and 2 weeks after surgery. Please refrain from smoking for at least 1 week before surgery and a minimum of 2 weeks after surgery as smoking can interfere with the final result.
Downtime following surgery
The surgery does not give you the right to a sick note. You should restrain with physical training during 4 weeks after surgery. In the beginning the scar will be red, itchy and hard. In time it will it bleach and soften. The scar can be hidden under a bra or a bathing-suit and you won’t be able to see it on low-necked clothes. We recommend you tape the scars for a couple of months after surgery.
Heavy physical exercise and strenuous body movement or lifting must not be undertaken for a minimum of 8 weeks following the surgery.
The final results will emerge between 3 to 6 months following surgery. There is very rarely disappointment in the patient’s perception of the success of the surgery.

Follow ups after all surgeries are important as we need to see how you are settling. We will require you to come to the clinic, therefore, for a follow up check. We do not recommend you fly for 48 hours post-surgery. You may feel nauseous and tired in the hours following surgery. It is important to take your painkillers and drink enough fluids.
You may experience dizziness if you get up quickly from a chair or perhaps when you are lying in bed, so be sensible, take it easy and move slowly. This is quite normal following surgery and should pass within a couple of days.
Follow ups will be carried out at the clinic/alternatively through phone or video consultation:
1 day after surgery, after 1-2 weeks, after 3-6 months and finally after 1 year when our guarantee to you is completed.
Bleeding and infection are unusual and if they do occur they may need to be treated with a small operation and/or an antibiotic. If corrections are needed they will be scheduled free of charge within one year after your surgery. Anesthesia allergy is extremely rare.
